Online Parenting Support in Michigan
You can love your child deeply and still feel unsure how to handle daily conflict, big emotions, or distance. The Nelson Center for Family Therapy offers online parenting support across Michigan for parents and caregivers. Your child does not need to participate for you to receive support. Most insurance plans are accepted, and appointments are often available within the next week. Our team helps match you with a therapist who fits your needs, goals, insurance, and schedule.
A Space for Parents and Caregivers
Parenting support centers your role as a caregiver. You may want help with rushed mornings, bedtime, homework, screen limits, sibling conflict, or a teen who withdraws. Emotional outbursts and difficult transitions can leave you exhausted or questioning your responses.
Parents, stepparents, foster and adoptive parents, guardians, grandparents, and co-parents can bring these concerns to therapy. We help you consider what behavior may be communicating and how your child’s development, stress, strengths, and needs fit into the picture.
How Online Parenting Support Can Help
Meet by secure video from a private space in Michigan, with or without your child participating. Sessions give you room to reflect on difficult interactions and practice responses that support both connection and clear limits. You may work on routines, communication, boundaries, consistent expectations, or reducing power struggles.
Your therapist can help you notice your own stress responses, pause before reacting, and repair after conflict. The focus is on realistic changes that fit your family, rather than expecting perfect parenting.
The approaches we draw on
Our Person Centered Integration Model (PCIM) guides personalized, evidence-based care. We consider your child’s age, temperament, strengths, emotional needs, family structure, culture, and values. Support may draw on behavioral strategies, attachment-informed care, family systems work, CBT-informed reflection, DBT-informed emotional regulation, and mindfulness.
Your therapist works collaboratively with you to understand patterns and choose manageable next steps. You can discuss what has already been tried and what makes a strategy difficult to use in daily life.
Support Through Parenting Changes
Parenting needs change as children grow and families adapt. You may seek help during separation, co-parenting changes, a blended-family transition, grief, or caregiver burnout. Parents supporting ADHD-related struggles, neurodivergence, school stress, or identity concerns can also receive guidance tailored to their family.
You do not need a child who is ready for therapy to begin. Parent-only support can help you strengthen understanding, consistency, and connection at home.

In-person appointments remain available in Waterford and Southfield. Tell our team your preferences so we can help find a therapist and format that fit.
