Online Child Therapy in Michigan
When your child is overwhelmed, everyday routines can become difficult for the whole family. The Nelson Center for Family Therapy offers online child therapy throughout Michigan for emotional, behavioral, social, and family concerns. We help children build coping skills while supporting the caregivers who know them best. Most insurance plans are accepted, and appointments are often available within the next week. Contact us and our team will help match your child with a therapist.
Understanding Your Child’s Needs
Children do not always have the words to explain distress. Worry, grief, frustration, or family changes may show up as meltdowns, withdrawal, sleep struggles, conflict, or difficulty with school and friendships. Some children need support with attention, impulsivity, transitions, or the social and emotional challenges that can accompany neurodivergence.
Therapy looks beyond a difficult moment to understand your child’s strengths, development, communication style, relationships, and environment. Parents can share concerns without needing a diagnosis or knowing exactly what kind of help to request.
How Online Child Therapy Can Help
Online sessions take place by secure video from a private location in Michigan. The therapist plans activities around your child’s age, attention, comfort, and treatment goals. Depending on their needs, therapy may use conversation, creative activities, play-based interventions, coping practice, and caregiver support.
Children can work on naming feelings, calming their bodies, handling frustration, asking for help, and solving everyday problems. Sessions can also support confidence, friendships, family transitions, grief, or difficult experiences. Your therapist discusses how to prepare for online sessions and how a caregiver can help.
The approaches we draw on
Our Person Centered Integration Model (PCIM) guides personalized, evidence-based care. Therapy adapts to your child’s developmental stage, strengths, emotional needs, and family relationships. Building trust and helping your child feel understood are central to the process.
Your therapist may draw on child-centered play techniques, CBT-informed coping skills, behavioral strategies, trauma-informed care, attachment-focused support, and emotional regulation practice. Caregiver collaboration helps connect the work in sessions with support at home.
Working Together With Caregivers
You do not have to work out every next step alone. Parents can discuss routines, emotional coaching, communication, and responses to difficult behavior. Your therapist helps you understand what your child may be communicating and consider practical support that fits your family.
We collaborate with caregivers on consistent strategies and realistic expectations. Your therapist can discuss how much involvement is useful during a video session and what you can practice together between appointments.
Why some people prefer online
