Online Anxiety Therapy in Michigan
Constant worry is exhausting, and getting help should not add to it. The Nelson Center for Family Therapy offers online anxiety therapy in Michigan for adults, teens, children and parents, by secure video from home. Appointments are often available within the next week, and our team matches you with a therapist.
How anxiety shows up
Anxiety is not always loud. Some people feel racing thoughts, a tight chest, restlessness or trouble sleeping. Others become irritable, perfectionistic or overly controlling, or they avoid situations that feel too big. Panic can arrive suddenly and feel frightening even when nothing seems wrong.
In children, anxiety may look like stomachaches, clinging, meltdowns or refusing to go to school. In teens it can look like perfectionism, school avoidance, irritability or withdrawal. Parents often sense a change long before the child can explain it.
What online anxiety therapy looks like
Sessions happen by secure video from a private space in Michigan. Your therapist starts by understanding what is going on: what sets anxiety off, what keeps it going, and what it costs you in daily life. From there, therapy is practical.
-
Coping skills for moments of panic or overwhelm
-
Ways to notice and slow anxious thinking
-
Mindfulness and grounding tools to use between sessions
-
Support for stress at work, at school, in relationships and at home
-
Help understanding the patterns that keep worry in charge
Therapy is not about being told to calm down. It is about building understanding and skills that fit your life, at a pace that feels workable.
The approaches we draw on
Our work is guided by the Person Centered Integration Model (PCIM), a personalized, evidence-based framework that adapts care to each client instead of using one fixed method. Depending on your needs, therapy may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to look at thought patterns, DBT-informed skills for distress tolerance and emotional regulation, mindfulness strategies, and trauma-informed care when anxiety is tied to past experiences.
When anxiety is tied to past experiences, EMDR may also be part of care. For children, online play therapy, one of our specialties, helps them show worry through play and learn calming skills. For children and teens, the approach is developmentally appropriate. Younger children may need simple language for feelings and calming tools. Teens often want to be treated as capable and not lectured. Parents are involved thoughtfully, so what is learned in session can be supported at home.
Anxiety therapy for parents and families
Anxiety rarely lives in one person. A child's worry affects the whole household, and a parent's stress shapes the home. Our team can support the person who is struggling, the parents who are trying to help, or the family together. If anxiety is linked to postpartum changes, parenting stress, relationship strain or trauma, therapy can address those pieces too.
Why some people prefer online
-
No commute, so sessions are easier to keep
-
You can meet from a place where you feel calm and private
-
Busy parents, students and working adults can fit sessions around real schedules
-
Teens often feel more at ease talking from their own space
Online therapy is one of the main ways we provide care, not a backup. If you would rather meet in person, we also have offices in Southfield and Waterford, and many clients mix both.
Insurance and getting started
Most insurance plans are accepted, and many Medicaid plans when applicable. Medicare is not accepted. Call or text 248-301-1080 and we will talk it through. When you reach out, we ask about your needs, goals, schedule, insurance and whether you prefer online or in person, then match you with a therapist.
The Nelson Center provides psychotherapy. We do not provide psychiatry, medication management, psychological testing or emergency care. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 988 or emergency services.
